Writing Competition
Eligibility
All second and third year law students are eligible to participate in the Summer Writing Competition.
Entry Numbers
To preserve anonymity, each memorandum will be provided an entry number by Student Services at the time the entry is received. You must include the cover page provided with your entry. If you do not include the cover page, your entry will be disqualified.
Deadline
The WJILDR must receive your memorandum by midnight on Sunday July 8, 2011. You may send it by e-mail, mail, fax, or in person to Student Services. Please note that if the entry is sent via US mail or dropped of in person, it must be received by Student Services by 4 p.m. on Friday July 6, 2011.

Grading
The primary criteria for all membership positions will be the quality of writing and reasoning skills as represented by your final product. The focus will be on clarity of writing, depth and creativity of legal analysis, grammar and proper 18th Edition Harvard Blue Book citation.
Honor Code
All work must be completed pursuant to Willamette University College of Law's Honor Code. You may not collaborate with other students or discuss the topic with faculty, friends, etc. Your entry is a representation of you and thus it is inappropriate to research and/or conference with others about your entry.
Sources
We have provided a list of materials to use as a starting point for your research. You must find a minimum of five (5) additional sources to be used in our memorandum. If you do not have five (5) additional sources, your entry will not be considered.
Memo Style
Should conform to the style learned in your first-year LRW class.
Citations
Citations should follow the 19th Edition of the Harvard Bluebook. Harvard Bluebooks are available for reference within the Willamette Law Library or you may purchase them in the Willamette Bookstore.
Memo Length
Submissions must be no longer than 10 pages in length, double-spaced, and typed on standard 8 ½" by 11" paper, using 12-point Times New Roman font with 1" margins.
