Moot Court Board

The Willamette University College of Law Moot Court Board has a long tradition of promoting the art of appellate and trial advocacy by sponsoring various competitions and providing educational seminars. The Board dates back to 1916 and is the oldest student-run organization at the College of Law. The Board is committed to helping Willamette Law students improve their skills as advocates in a competitive environment.

Membership

The Moot Court Board is comprised of second and third year students who have demonstrated motivation, dedication, and outstanding advocacy achievements. All first year students who win in the First Year Appellate Competition are invited to join. The remaining Board positions are filled through an anonymous application process which results in an interview with the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee selects Board members based on the criteria above. All Board members actively participate by attending monthly meetings, educational seminars, running intra-school competitions, and competing in various Board sponsored competitions. Competitions

The Moot Court Board offers a variety of trial and appellate competitions for students to participate in during the year. Recently, the Board introduced a Negotiation competition to encourage students interested in dispute resolution to develop and master negotiation skills. All competitions are open to second or third year students. Some competitions are for Moot Court Board members only. More information
