Phi Delta Phi

Welcome to the McNary Inn of Phi Delta Phi.

We are the Willamette University College of Law chapter of Phi Delta Phi, the oldest legal fraternity in the United States. We were formed nearly a decade before the American Bar Association! Our Inn here at Willamette was established in 1947.

The Phi Delta Phi family focuses on promoting ethics, professionalism, and excellence in the legal field. Phi Delta Phi is an international fraternity with over 200,000 members world wide. We have Inns in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Poland, and Germany.

Our members include current US Supreme Court Justices: John Paul Stevens, Antonin Scalia, and Anthony Kennedy. Past U.S. Supreme Court Justices include: John Harlin, Oliver Wendell Holmes, William Howard Taft, Benjamin Cardozo, Hugo Black, Earl Warren, William J. Brennan, Thurgood Marshall, William Rehnquist, Sandra Day O'Connor and 20 others. Nearly 1/2 of the Justices who have served on the US Supreme Court since our founding have been members of our fraternity. We also include among our number several U.S. Presidents.

In keeping with our goal of promoting ethics, professionalism, and excellence in the legal field, each year our Inn holds a number of events in which law students get to meet with and discuss these topics with judicial leaders of the State of Oregon. Each spring we have lunch with the Oregon Supreme Court here at Willamette. Each Justice sits with a small table of students, answers questions, and gets to know each student on a one-on-one basis. A couple times a year we visit Federal and State judges in their chambers to get an insider's perspective on the legal field.

Scholarships

Nationally, Phi Delta Phi offers twelve $3,000.00 Balfour Scholarships, one $3,000.00 Balfour Minority Scholarship, and one International Exchange Scholarship. Contact our Magister for more information on each of these scholarship opportunities.
