Holiday Schedule

The schedule below outlines the days on which the University will be closed due to recognized holidays and for Winter Break. This summary establishes when eligible employees will receive “holiday premium pay” (time plus one-half), and also identifies days when eligible employees may be entitled to a “paid day off” during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.  Please see section 5 in the Classified Employee Handbook for information on holiday premium pay and section 7 in both the Classified and Administrative Handbooks for information on paid holidays.   As always, feel free to contact Human Resources if you are unsure of your eligibility and the application of these benefits.

Eligible employees who are normally scheduled to work on the day of closure will be paid their normal pay for the days above. For employees on varied schedules, the amount of holiday pay will be based on their Full-Time Equivalency (FTE).  For all closures above, except Winter Break, if the date of closure is not a regularly scheduled workday, the affected employee will be granted another day off with pay for use prior to the end of the fiscal year (5/31).  During Winter Break, if the date(s) of closure are not regularly scheduled workdays, then no additional days are extended to the affected employee and will not be “floated” for use at other times.         

*Winter Breakclosure begins Wednesday, December 24th, and continues through January 2nd, making the return to work date Monday, January 5th.  For classified employees who must work during Winter Break, only Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day will qualify for holiday premium pay (time plus one-half).  Days scheduled and worked during Winter Break that are not designated holidays will be exchanged for another day off with paybefore June 1, 2009 (May 15, 2009 for classified staff) and cannot be carried over to the next fiscal year.  See "Winter Break" in Section 7 of the Employee Handbooks for more information.

DAYS ELIGIBLE FOR HOLIDAY PREMIUM PAY (Classified Only – Time + 1/2)

Independence Day, Thanksgiving (both days), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day (University is open on Labor Day this year and premium pay will not be provided).

OTHER DAYS OFF WITH PAY UNDER HOLIDAY POLICY

Personal Preference Day:

Administrators: 2 Days* (Must be used between 6/1/08 & 5/31/09)

Classified Staff: 3 Days* (Must be used between 5/15/08 & 5/14/09)

*To be taken during 2008-2009 fiscal year. One (1) day has been added this year as University is open on Labor Day to accommodate class schedule.  Requires supervisor approval. Does not carry over to next fiscal year. Recognition of Labor Day holiday will resume in 2009-2010 fiscal year.
