TWGA Vision: Athletics plays an important role in the educational mission of Willamette University because we embrace the liberal arts ideal to educate the mind and body. Willamette athletics includes competitive and well-equipped intercollegiate athletic teams; broad intramural programs; a wide array of recreational activities; and inviting physical fitness and wellness facilities. Each of these components is integral to supporting the athletic program to which we aspire for our students. Willamette will strive for excellence in all athletic endeavors, mirroring our commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.

TWGA Work: Although the TWGA report will be a fluid document, the working group has developed core areas that their work has been focused on:

  • Develop philosophy statement and define role of athletics at Willamette
  • Assess effectiveness of recruitment / enrollment strategies
Study relationships and resource requirements of all categories of athletic programs
  • Analyze risk and recommend steps to reduce or eliminate exposure
  • Determine implications and consequences of NCAA affiliation
  • Identify peer institution categories and develop metrics for comparison
  • Develop fund raising strategy for athletics during the life of the strategic plan
