Andrew Christopher Smith

about

Andrew Christopher Smith plays jazz piano, guitar, laptop (via a Playstation 2 controller and other implements), and has been playing the violin for one and a half years. Consequent to his inability to play any of these instruments with legitimate classical skill, he is a composer. He has studied jazz piano with Julian Snow, and composition with John Peel while at Willamette. In 2007-08 he studied composition with Donnacha Dennehy at Trinity College Dublin. He hopes to move to New York City and start or join a microtonal music collective. His non-musical interests include brewing beer and reading poetry.
(program note for Sympathies)

My thesis in English is on Wallace Stevens, Jacques Derrida, and the materiality of poetic language. If you'd like to chat about anything here, or if you'd like to offer me a job, drop me an e-mail.
