Public sectors are in a period of transition in many nation states. Many governments are proposing fundamental changes to the governance structures, information systems and regimes of accountability, accounting and auditing. Different patterns of changes are being pursued in different countries. Changes in Australasia are aimed at increased efficiency and competition in the provision of pubic sector goods and services. Whilst some changes in Asia are aimed at improving democracy and efficiency, others are about streamlining government services. In OECD countries there appears to be mixed reasons for pursing public sector administrative reforms. In several nation states there have been significant changes to traditional public administrative, accounting, auditing and accountability technologies. This workshop will focus on changes to public administration, governance structures and public sector accounting and accountability. It is expected that academic papers covering these changes in various countries will be presented. As well, historic and comparative studies outside Australasia will be welcomed. Expressions of interest and a copy of your paper should be sent by 3 March 1997 to A/Professor James Guthrie, MGSM, Macquarie University, Sydney, NSW, 2109, Australia, or email to: james.guthrie@mq.edu.au Registration fees will cover meals and printing. Various accommodation options will be available. For more information about the workshop, please contact
