Meeting with the Willamette Freshman
Colloquium
Objectives of this activity
- To use what you have learned in our class and
practice English
- To help Willamette students learn about Japan-U.S. intercultural
communication
Procedure
- You will normally be in groups with one TIUA student and
one WU student. Sometimes we will make larger groups.
Hints
- Relax; this is a conversation not an interview
- Look at your partner not at the desk. The focus should
be listening and speaking, not writing. Make sure everyone in the
group is included in the conversation. Use "listening" gestures and sounds.
Use these and similar phrases when appropriate!
- Hello. I'm _________________________ . Nice
to meet you. (If you don't know someone.)
- Hi, nice to see you again! (If
you know someone.)
- I remember you, but could you say your name
again slowly for me, please. (You recognize
someone, but you can't remember his or her name.)
- Excuse me. Could you please repeat that?
- Excuse me. Could you please speak more
slowly?
- How do you spell that?
- I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand.
- I have a question.
