College Colloquium: Understanding your mind -- paper 2 -- 20 points.
<p>
You have several options for this second paper (three are from your groups, the other two are mine).
<ol>
<LI> An essay analyzing the various (Rahula, Dennett & Kandel) authors' criticisms of Descartes. Read the first two Meditations (http://www.wright.edu/cola/descartes/mede.html), so that you can decide to what extent those criticisms are accurate.
<LI> An essay describing and defining each of the 4 Noble Truths in layman's terms
<LI>A fairy tale incorporating the 4 Noble Truths; include a paragraph or two that makes clear what they are/how they are conveyed. 
<LI>A short story in which the 3 forms of conditioning/learning (from Kandel) are represented/displayed; again, include a paragraph that makes clear what they are/how they are conveyed.
<LI> Invent a new metaphor for consciousness. Embed it in a story or an essay.
</ol>
<p>
On the 11th, bring two copies of a full first draft (minimum 1000 words) to class. You will exchange drafts with two others and give thoughtful feedback to one another. 
<p>
Your revised draft of between 1100 and 1400 words will be due at the beginning of class on the 18th. Attach the two copies of your previous draft and your reviewer's comments.
