Welcome!
You've found the Willamette University website for freshman Michael Diamond. There isn't much here yet, but check back later and you'll find more, no doubt. In the meantime, check out my real website, DigitalGemstones.com
CS Tutoring
I will be in the Collins lab 407 on Tuesdays and Sundays from 7pm - 9pm to help CS students. Specifically for either section of CS231 Intro to Programming, but I can help with several other classes (Data Structures, Intro to Functional Programming, etc.). You can also contact me any other time and I'll see if I can meet up with you. Shoot me an email at my Willamette address or look up my contact info on Facebook.
Calc Cheat Sheet
Putting this Cheat Sheet together for Calc 1 with... hell, I don't even know the prof's name, but it's at 9:40 TTh.
Connecting Your Willamette Email Address to GMail via POP3
Quick Explaination
Go here to activate POP3 for your WU mail account and then connect it to your GMail account.
In Depth Instructions
As I'm sure you're aware by now, the Willamette webmail application, Squirel Mail, is quite annoying and limited. That's where GMail comes in. For those of you who don't know, GMail is Google's mail application, and it's fantastic. Belive it or not, people judge you based on your email address (gasp!) and although it's completly free, @gmail.com is basically the best there is. So if you don't already have one, go get one!
Now, one of the many, many snazzy features of GMail is that you can hook other mail accounts up to it, as long as they have POP access. Any email address that you have from an ISP (such as Comcast, Earthlink, or dare I say AOL) should have POP access built in, so you can download your messages to your computer using Outlook, Thunderbird, or another mail program. POP is the most common mail retreval protocol at the moment. Willamette, however, runs IMAP, which is a new, better protocol, which GMail has not yet implemented (not sure why, but it's probably more complicated somehow). This presented me with a problem when I wanted to connect my WU address to my GMail account rather than having to check Squirrel Mail all the time.
But through some intense sleuthing (read: contacting WITS) I managed to discover how to turn POP access to your WU account on. Simply visit: Willamette POP and set 'POP3 Access Enabled' and bam! you're good to go.
Now go to your GMail settings, go to the Accounts tab, under 'Get mail from other accounts:' click 'Add another mail account' and follow the directions there. The POP3 server is 'mail.willamette.edu' and your username and password are your Willamette login info. I also created a label called 'Willamette' so I could easily tell where my email's are coming from, but that's optional. Once completed GMail will automatically check for and download any new emails your WU account receives.
Above the 'Get mail from other accounts:' section is 'Send mail as:'. This should now have the WU email address as well, but if it doesn't, add your email there as well. If it's not there, you will only be able to receive, not send.
And that's about it!
