The Condorcet Criterion


We call a candidate who beats every other candidate in a one-on-one comparison a Condorcet Candidate.
Condorcet says that it's unfair if a Condorcet Candidate loses, and an election system is unfair if it's possible for a Condorcet Candidate to lose.
Condorcet criterion: For an election system to be fair (according
to Condorcet), it must guarantee that a Condorcet candidate, if there
is one, wins.
