Carr
Nord Hofmann was founded in 1995 when, intrigued by the
potential of
combining violin, guitar/electronics, and percussion, Mike Nord invited
Georg Hofmann to join Richard Carr and himself for a series of concerts
in the United States. The rapport and energy were
immediate. Sharing a common dedication to
the spirit of jazz, and a desire to explore collective improvisation
incorporating vocabulary from jazz, classical, blues, and folk
traditions from a variety of cultures, the group committed to working
together longer term.
The
group appeared live and in media
broadcasts in Europe, the United States, and Mexico. In
1997 They released Coast to Coast (Nabel 4675)
and followed this with Along the Edge
(Nabel 4683) in 1999
In 2003 pianist Art
Maddox was invited to play with the trio on a tour of the
Pacific
Northwest. He
immediately fit into
the chemistry of the group. Maddox permanantly joined the group
that year, releasing In Walks Art (Leo CD LR 401).
Now Carr Nord Hofmann Maddox, the group
continues to develop a
unique,
improvised music that is evocative
and adventurous. They released Biosphere
(Leo 456), their
second cd for Leo Records in
the spring of 2006. This was followed by a series of
performances in Japan.
