日本語１３１　Past of い　and な　Adjectives

い　Adjectives: Remove final い　and add　+ かった

Perhaps it is because we CAN inflect いAdjectives into Negative (く＋ありません／ない)　and into the past, so we have to express the past of Adjectives using かった　instead of Adj でした. So, we never say　あたらしい　でした；it must be あたらしかったです

A few examples:

たかい　　たか　＋　かった　

大きい 　　大き　＋　かった　

小さい 　　小さ　＋　かった　

So, hint, get used to saying just the base of Adjectives: (i.e., remove the final い)

ふる　

あかる　

くら　

せま　

ひろ　

いそがし　

おもしろ　　

むずかし　

やさし　

たのし　

つまらな　

さびし
