Oh Canada!
Grand
Canyon Breweries Commercial
-Sung to
the tune of ÒIce Ice BabyÓ by Vanilla Ice
Spite
Spite Baby
Spite
Spite Baby.
All right stop,
Collaborate and listen.
Grand
Canyon[1] is back with a
brand new invention.
Cold
Beer,
grabs a hold of me tightly.
Americans seem
to
be
seen
as
unsightly.
Will it ever stop?
—Sometimes I don't know.
Turn on
the
truth
and
IÕll
show.
We
are the country that people love to hate,
ThatÕs
because theyÕre jealous cause weÕre the best and they canÕt relate.
Damn,
People
seem
to
think
that
we
need
too
much
space,
But
when we go abroad, weÕre
too much
in-your-face.
Government,
you
seem
to
think
is
our
way,
But the people donÕt always do
everything that they say.
Love it or leave it,
You better believe
it.
In 1964
they owned our lives
In 1965
they
were
lucky
to
survive[2]
When
there
was
a
problem
The
people solved it
Example:
KatrinaÕs
what
we
call
it.[3]
Spite
Spite Baby
Spite Spite
Baby
Spite Spite
Baby
Spite Spite
Baby.
Around the world they think
that we are greedy
But when it comes to charity, we
are quite deedy.[4]
Other countries call us Hypocritical[5],
I think theyÕre being over-analytical.
Other countries should focus on issues of their own,
But instead all they do is just piss and moan.
People think of Americans as being lazy,
I think that they are all just crazy.
Americans
are often seen to be portly,
But
instead we are quite sporty.
In the 1990Õs they found us outstanding,
Now that we arenÕt as popular, they find us commanding.
Around
the world the hatred is growing,
Without
anybody ever really knowing.
Do
we ever stop?
No,
we just keep on going.
[1] The author is referring to the company marketing their beer, Grand Canyon Breweries. Named after the Grand Canyon, a distinctly American feature, Grand Canyon Breweries prides themselves on being ÒAmericaÕs BeerÓ.
[2] The author is referring to the college riots against the Vietnam War that started in 1965 and ended in 1973.
[3] The author is referring to all of the community service that was done by the people when the government failed after Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans in 2005.
[4] The author is referring to how charitable the American people are. In 2006, Americans broke a world charity record, giving $300 billion to charitable organizations.
[5] The author is referring to the fact that many different countries think that the US is hypocritical for a number of reasons. They argue that the US says they are this great country for all who live there, but they donÕt have health care to cover all who live in the US. The US calls themselves a melting pot of all races, but they were segregation in the US wasnÕt illegal until 1968. It is things like these that lead to the stereotype that Americans are hypocritical.
