Partying Cuttlefish
This is a Julia pattern given by the familiar dynamical system
zn+1 = zn2 + p
with p = (0.25000316374967, -0.00000000895902) over a rectangular neighborhood of the origin. Note that the
Mandelbrot Set is a Fatou pattern centered at the same point p. If its radius were a little larger, the general pattern would have looked more similar to the “Partying Cuttlefish” (excepting the “snowman” figure). The similarity between a Julia pattern and the corresponding Fatou pattern is known to most fractal artists although no mathematician seems to have bothered to justify why.
