Willamette Finishes Third in Women's Novice 4+ at Covered Bridge Regatta
LOWELL, ORE. -- Willamette University took third place in its heat of the women's collegiate novice 4+ at the Covered Bridge Regatta on Saturday, April 13 at Dexter Lake. The Bearcats also competed in the women's collegiate varsity 8+ and the men's collegiate varsity 4+ events.
Humboldt State University won the heat of the WCN4+ with a time of 8:38.90. Lewis & Clark University was second at 9:02.96 and Willamette was third at 9:29.92. Arizona State University club team was fourth with a time of 9:29.93.
Rowing for the Bearcats in the WCN4+ were Sarah Fish (Fr., Issaquah, WA/Holy Names Academy) at stroke, Carly Burt (Fr., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) at 3-seat, Evann Zuckerman (Fr., Glendale, CA/Hoover HS) at 2-seat and Taylor Cooksy (Fr., Cameron Park, CA/Ponderosa HS) at bow. The coxswain was Naomi Morgan (Fr., Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS).
WU finished fourth in the men's collegiate varsity 4+.
The "B" team from the University of Oregon club won the race in 9:07.80, while Humboldt's "B" team was second at 9:53.45 and the Seattle Pacific University "B" team was third in 10:00.75. The Bearcats were fourth in 1:041.08 and Chico State University club took fifth in 12:02.63.
In the women's collegiate varsity 8+, Willamette was eighth in a race that included NCAA Division I varsity crews from the University of Portland, Santa Clara University (Calif.) and Seattle University. Also competing were NCAA Division II shells from Western Washington University, Humboldt State and Seattle Pacific. Willamette and Lewis & Clark represented NCAA Division III.
Portland won the race in 7:09.45, edging out Western Washington by 29 seconds, as the Vikings took second in 7:10.14. Humboldt State finished third in 7:18.50. Willamette's time was 7:54.59.
The Bearcats are scheduled to return to action at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, set for April 26-28 at Lake Natoma near Folsom, Calif.
