Bearcat Rowing Teams to Compete at NCRC Championship Regatta
LAKE STEVENS, WASH. -- The Willamette University rowing teams will compete at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC) Championship Regatta on Saturday, May 4 at Lake Stevens. The NCRC is a very strong small college rowing conference with four teams from NCAA Division III and three teams from NCAA Division II.
Members of the NCRC from NCAA Division II are Western Washington University, Humboldt State University and Seattle Pacific University. Members of the NCRC from NCAA Division III are Willamette, Lewis & Clark College, Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Puget Sound.
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) rankings for women's rowing in NCAA Division II, is topped by Western Washington at #1, while Humboldt State is ranked sixth and Seattle Pacific is the team receiving votes but not in the top eight. The CRCA rankings for NCAA Division III women's rowing include Puget Sound at #13 and Pacific Lutheran among those receiving votes but not in the top 15.
Willamette will compete in four events at the NCRC Championships. The Bearcats will participate in the women's varsity 8+, women's varsity 4+, women's second varsity 4+ and men's varsity 4+.
The WU crew in the WV8+ will be guided by coxswain Rachel Robinson (So., Bellevue, WA/Bellevue HS) with Kate Pfeiffer (Sr., Redding, CA/University Preparatory School) at stroke, Caroline Cahill (Maplewood, NJ/Lawrenceville School) at 7-seat, Anna Fredendall (So., Atlanta, GA/Dekalb School of the Arts) at 6-seat and Kira Egelhofer (So., Anchorage, AL/West Anchorage HS) at 5-seat.
Also competing for the Bearcats in the WV8+ will be Taylor Cooksy (Fr., Cameron Park, CA/Ponderosa HS) at 4-seat, Meredith Miller (So., Lake Oswego, OR/Seattle Pacific University) at 3-seat, Evann Zuckerman (Fr., Glendale, CA/Hoover HS) at 2-seat and Alli Claypool-Conrad (So., Ashland, OR/Ashland HS) at bow.
Willamette's WV4+ crew will include Robinson at coxswain, plus Pfeiffer at stroke, Cahill at 3-seat, Claypool-Conrad at 2-seat and Fredendall at bow.
In the women's second varsity 4+, the coxswain for the Bearcats will be Naomi Morgan (Fr., Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS). She will be joined by Miller at stroke, with 3-seat filled by Cahill, 2-seat by Claypool-Conrad and bow by Fredendall.
The MV4+ will have Michaelin Richards (So., San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo HS) as the coxswain, with Dillon Peck (So., Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge HS) at stroke, Karsten Kern (So., Edmonds, WA/Woodway HS) at 3-seat, Connor Winnie (So., Clackamas, OR/Clackamas HS) at 2-seat and Herschel Mapes (Fr., Stayton, OR/Stayton HS) at bow.
Action at the NCRC Championship Regatta is slated to start at 8 a.m. (PDT).
