Canadian Embassy Awards Grant to Willamette

Sammy Basu, associate professor of politics, recently earned his fourth Canadian Studies Program Enhancement Grant from the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The grant will support Canadian studies programming throughout a variety of disciplines at Willamette. It is designed to encourage scholarly inquiry and multidisciplinary professional academic activities that contribute to the development or expansion of university Canadian studies programs.

The embassy particularly is interested in supporting innovative projects that promote awareness among students and the public about Canada-U.S. relations, Canada's role in international affairs and Canadian social, economic, political, security and quality of life issues.

These grants to Willamette have helped several professors develop courses and research projects relating to Canadian issues, brought distinguished speakers from Canada to campus, created research opportunities for students based on their coursework and allowed students to make an educational class trip to Victoria, British Columbia.
