Willamette University Cycling Team hosts bike race
On April 3, Willamette University Cycling will host the Capitol Cup Criterium, a bicycle race that loops around the Oregon State Capitol. In the morning, college teams will compete in this Northwest Collegiate Cycling Conference event for national championship qualifying points. Afternoon races are open to the public and are sanctioned by the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association (OBRA).
Races begin at 8 a.m. with the final collegiate race beginning at 12:10 p.m. Public races start with juniors at 1:30 p.m. and conclude with the top men's field at 5:10 p.m. The public is encouraged to come enjoy the action of this short-course race.
The 0.7-mile course follows State Street, beginning in front of Willamette's Ford Hall and proceeding east, turning north onto Waverly Drive. Racers will turn westbound on Court Street and loop back around to State Street via Cottage Street. Roads will be closed to traffic during the event.
Registration fees range from $5 to $25 with an additional $5 fee for OBRA non-members. Helmets are required. Register the day of the race in Ford Hall. Visit OBRA's Web site for details:
