Willamette hosts concert by renowned flute, guitar duo

Aisling Agnew and Matthew McAllister, one of Europe's premiere flute and guitar duos, will perform Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Hudson Hall, Mary Stuart Rogers Music Center, at Willamette University.

The program will include works by Astor Piazzolla, Francis Poulenc, Pietro Locatelli and many more. Admission is free.

Flautist Aisling Agnew and classical guitarist Matthew McAllister met in Glasgow while studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Their joint passion for chamber music, interacting with composers and performing new music immediately brought them together.

Since giving their debut recital in the "Harty Room" of Queen's University, Belfast in 2001, they have grown in popularity and performed extensively around the United Kingdom and Ireland, North and South America and Europe. The duo is now recognized as one of Europe's premiere exponents of the genre. Their debut album, Recital, affirms this reputation, featuring a wide range of virtuosic music from around the globe.

Paul O'Reilly at the Belfast Telegraph wrote, "Matthew McAllister's personality filtered through to his witty, yet tender and considered playing throughout. Joined by Aisling Agnew, who is already recognized as one of the top young flautists operating throughout Great Britain and Ireland, the duo gave a sensitive and rhythmically striking account of a work which has already received its premier in London and Dublin by the same duo."
