Willamette presents 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Invitational Festival

Willamette University's nationally recognized vocal jazz ensemble, the Willamette Singers, has invited three of the region's top high school jazz choirs to join them in performance for the 2nd Annual Vocal Jazz Invitational Festival on Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. The performance is in Willamette's Smith Auditorium.

Wallace Long, director of the Willamette Singers and festival organizer, has invited the vocal jazz groups from South Salem High School, directed by Carol Stenson; Sprague High School in Salem, directed by David Brown; and Boise High School, directed by Heather Prinzing.

"All three of these groups have received numerous awards for their outstanding performance in vocal jazz," Long said. "They are really going to push the Willamette Singers to be at the top of their game."

The featured repertoire will be Route 66, Round Midnight and an outstanding arrangement of Four Brothers.

Featured Salem performers in the Willamette Singers will be seniors Stephen Branch from South Salem High School and Jack Martin from McNary High School.

Admission is free, although CDs will be sold and donations gladly accepted. For more information, contact the Willamette University music department at 503-370-6255.
