How do I unlock doors with my card?

Position the card in the card reader with the magnetic strip closest to the building and facing right. Slide the card rapidly through the slot from top to bottom. The green light will come on and the door will unlock for about six seconds.

Individual room card locks at Kaneko Commons also require a PIN for entry:  After sliding the card in the cardlock, wait for the light to blink red, then enter the PIN on the keypad.

If your card will not unlock a door to which you should have access, contact Campus Safety at 503-370-6911, or email safety@willamette.edu.

Can I use the card as a bus pass?

Cherriots, the public bus system in Salem, is available to you at no cost. Get a free activation sticker from the Campus Safety office, or from the Human Resources office in Waller Hall.  Then, just show your card to the bus operator and you can ride anywhere on the transit system, Monday-Saturday. Route information is available at the Information Desk in the University Center and at the Cherriots website.

How can I get a replacement card?

Report lost or stolen cards immediately to 503-370-6000 or campuscard@willamette.edu, or freeze your account at the Online Card Office: click on Access My Account, then log in with your Willamette username and password.
Replace a lost card at the Campus Card Office, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., for $10; damaged (through normal wear and tear) cards may be replaced at no cost.

What if I forgot my PIN?

A PIN is no longer required to access your Compass Card account.  Instead, use your Willamette username and password.

What is "authorized" Compass Card use?

Your Compass Card is the property of Willamette University and is issued to you for personal use only. Loaning your card to another person is a violation of the University's Standards of Conduct. If you wish to purchase something for someone else, you must accompany them.

When will I need my card for ID purposes?

You must carry your Compass Card with you at all times while on campus. This card identifies you as a student or employee. You may be asked to show your card as identification to cash checks, gain admittance to University events, or to verify your identity to a University official.

Dining Points versus Compass Cash: What's the Difference?

  • Cat Cavern, University Center
  • Goudy Commons
  • Kaneko Commons
  • Convenience Store, Montag Center (food items only)

Compass Cash can be deposited on your Compass Card at any time, and can be used in any location on campus that accepts the Compass Card, including the dining areas listed above. Compass Cash purchases at Cat Cavern, Kaneko Commons and Goudy Commons receive a 10% rebate posted to your account at the end of each month.

Note:  When you make a purchase at the four locations listed above, Dining Points will be used first, then rebate funds, then Compass Cash.

What are Compass Card dos and don'ts?

Do carry your card at all times. You must have your card with you to make a purchase with your funds. You must also present your card to any University official on request.

Don't loan your card to anyone. Loaning your card, or using another person's card, are violations of the University's Standards of Conduct.

Do report lost or stolen cards immediately by calling the Compass Card office at 503-370-6000 or emailing campuscard@willamette.edu.
