Willamette University is pleased to host the 2024 NW5 Faculty of Color Retreat. We hope that these three days will provide you with opportunities to rest, to reconnect, and to reflect.

Schedule

Day 1 | Tuesday, May 21, 2024
- 1–3 p.m. – Preretreat Workshop: Writing in Balance
- 3–4 p.m. – Check In
- 4–5:30 p.m. – Wine Tasting or a visit and tour at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art
- 5:30–8 p.m. – Welcome Dinner & Flash Talks
Day 2 | Wednesday, May 22, 2024
- Morning – Breakfast at Hotel
- 9–10:30 a.m. – Conversation Circles
- 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. – Keynote with Dr. Chandan Reddy
- 12–1 p.m. – Lunch
- 1–2:30 p.m. – Keynote Workshop with Dr. Chandan Reddy
- 2:30–5 p.m. – Explore Salem!
- 6–8 p.m. – Dinner in Downtown Salem
Day 3 | Thursday, May 23, 2024
- Morning – Breakfast at Hotel
- 8:30–10 a.m. – Morning Activities in Salem
- 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. – Lightning Rounds
- 12–1 p.m. – Wrap Up & Feedback
- 1–2 p.m. – Lunch
- 2 p.m. – Willamette Campus Tour (optional)

Accommodations

We have room blocks at The Grand Hotel and The Holman. Each is located just around the corner from one another in downtown Salem. Please first try to reserve your room at The Grand Hotel. If that room block is full you can then reserve at The Holman.

*All reservations must be booked by April 19, 2024.

Transportation to Salem Options:

Willamette is a 15-20 minute walk from both hotel locations.

By Car

We always recommend taking the opportunity to carpool with colleagues to the retreat. Parking is free to all guests at the Grand Hotel. Valet parking is available at the Holman Hotel for $23/day.

Flights

If you are flying into PDX and needing transportation down to Salem, we recommend using Groome Transportation, although other alternatives do exist. It drops you off at the Holiday Inn in Salem. It is a very short taxi/Uber/Lyft ride from there to campus/hotels or let us know and we can organize someone to pick you up.

The Salem train station is directly across the street from the Willamette campus.
