Biography

Professor Poor teaches Evidence, Criminal Law, and Gender and the Law at Willamette. Her research focuses on the intersections between the criminal legal system and civil legal remedies and social processes. She is particularly interested in exploring entanglements between the carceral state and the ostensibly non-criminal response to intimate partner violence, along with the role of police in arbitrating truth outside the criminal legal system.

Prior to joining the Willamette faculty, Poor was an attorney at Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, where she maintained a holistic practice representing survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in a wide array of matters related to their experience of gender-based violence, including issues related to family law, housing, employment, crime victim rights, and access to education. She was also a staff attorney at the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland.

Most recently, Poor was a clinical teaching fellow at the University of Baltimore School of Law's Saul Ewing Civil Advocacy Clinic, a general practice litigation clinic. At Baltimore, she taught and supervised second- and third-year law students representing under-resourced clients, largely from communities of color, in a range of civil matters.
