African and Oceanic Art Collection

A more recent collecting focus for the Hallie Ford Museum of Art is art from tribal cultures of Africa – with a focus on West African cultures – and the Oceania region, particularly Papua New Guinea. Since 2010, the museum has acquired 132 objects of either African or Papua New Guinean origin.  These objects represent diverse cultures from the early to mid-twentieth century, and the social and economic power structures within those cultures. None of these objects is currently on view in the Museum's galleries.
